En la Argentina se generan 500.000 toneladas de residuos electrónicos al año
Los monitores, cargadores, gabinetes, celulares, computadoras, baterías entre otros electrónicos que se tiran, contienen sustancias químicas que contaminan el medio ambiente al mezclarse con el resto de la basura.
De acuerdo a un informe de la ONU, en el mundo los desechos electrónicos suman unos 50 millones de toneladas por año.
La Argentina registra un promedio de entre 10 y 12 kilos de residuos de aparatos eléctricos y electrónicos (RAEE) por habitante por año, lo que representa unas 500.000 toneladas anuales, de las cuales menos del 10% es reutilizada, según datos de la Asociación civil Basura Cero.
A nivel global el último informe de la Plataforma para acelerar la economía circular (PACE) y la coalición de residuos electrónicos de las Naciones Unidas en el planeta los desechos electrónicos llegan a 50 millones de toneladas por año que equivalen a US$ 60.000 millones.
El Programa de Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente informó que el 80% de esos desechos electrónicos acaba como relleno sanitario o en basurales a cielo abierto, sin la gestión del reciclaje adecuado
